Tenimyu Actor Hijiri Shinotani Arrested on Rape Charges

22-year-old Japanese actor Hijiri Shinotani was arrested on Monday by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police under suspicion of rape and battery of a woman in her late teens. According to the police, he approached the woman on her way home from work on August 9, brought her to a nearby building, then committed the crimes. The woman suffered minor physical injuries that took a week to fully heal. During the course of his acting career, Shinotani has performed as Kai Yuujirou in the Prince of Tennis musical stage play, and has also appeared on television as part of the group Naked Boyz.
The police state that Shinotani admitted to the crimes, stating that he was drunk at the time and unable to exercise his better judgement. Shinotani became implicated in the case when he gave the woman his cell phone number and part of his name before leaving the scene of the crime, saying that he wanted to date the woman.
