Dragon Head's Mochizuki Launches Chiisakobee Manga

This year's 40th issue of Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits manga anthology will begin serialization on Minetarō Mochizuki's (Dragon Head) new manga Chiisakobee (pictured at right) on September 3.
The manga is based on Shūgorō Yamamoto's historical novel Chiisakobe, which centers on a young carpenter who cares for children orphaned by a large fire the capital city of Edo. The novel follows the carpenter as he rebuilds after the fire and cares for the children. The novel was adapted into a live-action film in 1962.
Mochizuki's Dragon Head manga was adapted into a live-action film in Japan in 2003. Two other of Mochizuki's manga, Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl, and Bataashi Kingyō, were also adapted into live-action films. Tokyopop published the original 10-volume Dragon Head manga in North America in 2006-2008.
