The organizers of Otakon 2012 announced on Wednesday and Thursday that the event will host writer Peter S. Beagle, singer Mikako Joho, and K-pop boy band VIXX (pictured at right).
Beagle is the author of The Last Unicorn, A Fine and Private Place, and Two Hearts, and he has also written teleplays and screenplays. The Last Unicorn was animated by the Japanese animation studio Topcraft, which later worked with Hayao Miyazaki on the 1984 film adaptation of his Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind manga. Members of this team went on to form Studio Ghibli with Miyazaki in 1985.
Mikako Joho, who will release her first single "Kimi ga Suki Datta" later this year, will perform a selection of anime theme songs at the convention on Friday, July 27.
The six-member band VIXX will perform on Friday at the convention. The band's appearance will mark the first time that a K-Pop band will perform at a convention.
Otakon 2012 will run from July 27–29 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
