This year's 16th issue of Futabasha's Manga Action magazine will publish the final chapter of Shigeru Tsuchiyama's Gokudō Meshi gourmet manga on August 7.
Gokudō Meshi, which can be translated as "Criminals" Meals," is a human comedy about five Japanese prisoners who reminisce about the most delicious meals they ever had in the past. The prisoners battle over entrees in their New Year's Day meals by telling the best stories about these meals.
JManga is publishing the manga in English, and the website is currently hosting the first two volumes.
The manga inspired a live-action film directed by Tetsu Maeda and starring Tasuku Nagaoka, Masanobu Katsumura, Akaji Maro, and Motoki Ochiai. The film opened in Japan in September 2011.
Gokudō Meshi began running in Futabasha's Manga Action anthology in 2006. The tenth and final volume will ship in October. Tsuchiyama's other food-related manga include Kenka Ramen ("Fighting Ramen") and Shokking ("Food King").
