Starship Troopers: Invasion's New Trailer Streamed
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
The IGN Entertainment website began streaming the latest trailer for the Starship Troopers: Invasion CG film on Monday.
The new film draws design cues from Paul Verhoeven's loose 1997 live-action film adaptation of Robert A. Heinlein's original novel. Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) is directing the new film, which is due out in August 28.
The release will include filmmaker commentary, deleted scenes, and a making-of featurette series. The Blu-ray will add a concept gallery for elements in the film.
In related news, the official Tumblr account for the film was updated on Wednesday with new images of the L-6 satellite base where the character Johnny Rico is stationed. The base is equipped with nuclear weapons and plasma cannons. Similar updates revealed the film's bug and power suits designs.
Before Verhoeven's live-action film and its several direct-to-video follow-ups, Gundam anime studio Sunrise produced a video version of Starship Troopers in 1988. Studio Nue (Macross, Legend of the Galactic Heroes) co-founder Naoyuki Katō had created powered suit designs for his illustrations in the 1977 Japanese reprint of Heinlein's novel.
