The Japanese company Character Databank has revealed the winners of the "Licensing of the Year 2012 in Japan" awards. Winners for this year's awards include One Piece and Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
The awards recognize the best national brands and characters during the 2011 fiscal year (April 2011-March 2012). A selection committee votes on the most successful properties during that fiscal year from a list of nominees. 111 properties were nominated for the various awards this year.
One Piece won the Grand Prix Award, which recognizes the year's most successful property. The franchise won the same award in 2010.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica won the Selection Committee Special Prize award this year.
The winners will be recognized at a ceremony at the "Licensing Japan" event at the Tokyo Big Sight event hall on July 6.
Character Databank established the awards in 2009. In its inaugural year, the Pokémon franchise won the Grand Prix Award. The Kobito Dukan fictional illustrated encyclopedia franchise won the award in 2011.
