Sentai Filmworks Licenses Hakuoki Reimeiroku TV Anime

Sentai Filmworks announced at Anime Expo on Friday that the company has licensed the Hakuōki Reimeiroku TV anime. The title is the third series based on Idea Factory's Hakuōki game franchise. The prequel to Hakuōki, the story takes place in 1863 as the violent uprising due to political discord disrupt Japan. The Tokugawa shoganate creates the Roshigumi, a masterless group of samurai to aid Aizu forces in Kyoto.
However, things aren't boding well for the new police force, as assassinations split the group into two opposing factions. The more powerful faction is led by Kamo Serizawa (Jouji Nakata) while the smaller faction is let by the noble-minded Kando Isami. Enter Ryūnosuke Ibuki (Tomokazu Seki): forced to participate in Serizawa's plans due a blood debt, he hopes to push Kondo to take down Serizawa.
The series is set to premiere July 9 in Japan. The series will be available through select digital outlets with a bilingual home video release scheduled for next year.
Sentai Filmworks licensed Hakuōki in April. The Hakuōki anime franchise includes the 12-episode Hakuōki series, the 10-episode sequel series Hakuōki Hekketsu-roku, and the 6-episode Hakuōki Sekkaroku OAV series. The franchise also includes two upcoming films that will premiere in 2013.
