The North American anime distributor Sentai Filmworks announced on Wednesday that the production committee for the Ro-Kyu-Bu ~ Fast Break! television anime series has requested a buyback of the series' home video rights for all licensees outside of Asian territories. Sentai Filmworks notes that it will be complying with the production committee's request and will return the home video rights, but it will still retain other rights to the series. The series will still be available through TV, streaming, and other digital sources. Sentai Filmworks has confirmed with ANN that the buyback request does not affect Sentai Filmworks' license of any other title.
Sentai Filmworks originally announced in July last year that it had licensed Ro-Kyu-Bu ~ Fast Break! with plans to release an English-subtitled DVD this year. The series streamed on The Anime Network as it aired.
Ro-Kyu-Bu ~ Fast Break! is based on the light novel series written by Sagu Aoyama and illustrated by Tinkle. The 12-episode anime was directed by Keizō Kusakawa (Sekirei, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's,) with character designs by Takayuki Noguchi (Queen's Blade, Papillon Rose) and script supervision by Michiko Itou (Special A).
The male protagonist is Subaru Hasegawa, who joins a highschool basketball club only for play is suspended when the captain is accused of being a lolicon. Subaru is then asked by his aunt to coach a young girls' basketball club, a Ro-Kyu-Bu.
