Montreal's Fantasia Fest to Screen Blood-C Anime Film

The film website Twitch reported on Monday that this year's Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal will screen the Blood-C: The Last Dark anime film. The event will also host the North American premiere of Koji Wakamatsu's film 11/25 The Day Mishima Chose His Own Fate and the Canadian premiere of Gakuryu Ishii's Isn't Anyone Alive? film.
Manga creator team CLAMP developed the story and original character designs for the earlier Blood-C television series and the Blood-C: The Last Dark film. Production I.G animated both projects. Naoyoshi Shiotani (Tokyo Marble Chocolate, key animator on Blood+ and Blood-C) is directed the film instead of the television version's director Tsutomu Mizushima. Writers Jun'ichi Fujisaku and Nanase Ohkawa (CLAMP), animation character designer/chief animation director Kazuchika Kise, and voice cast members Nana Mizuki (Saya Kisaragi) and Kenji Nojima (Fumito Nanahara) returned from the television series.
The film opened in theaters across Japan on June 2 and earned earned 32,037,000 yen (about US$409,000) in its opening weekend.
The 2012 Fantasia International Film Festival will take place from July 19 to August 7. The live-action Ninja Kids!!! film was screened at last year's festival. Sunao Katabuchi's Mai Mai Miracle won the Best Animated Feature Film award in the Jury Prize category, and several other anime films also received prizes at the event in 2010.
