An unnamed source at Hayakawa Publishing told the Japanese film website Cinema Today that the film adaptation rights for the late Project Itoh's debut sci-fi novel Genocidal Organ are being pitched in Hollywood, with some interest expressed.
The 2007 story follows American intelligence agent Clavis Shepard as he tracks supposed mastermind terrorist John Paul in a future world wrought with chaos and violence.
Itoh also wrote the novel adaptation of Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots and his final novel Harmony while he was being treated for the cancer that ultimately took his life in 2009. Viz Media's Haikasoru imprint has announced all three of Itoh's full-length novels in English. The Genocial Organ novel will arrive in English in August.
Entertainment trade magazine Variety reported that Hayakawa Publishing signed an agreement for an American film adaptation of Mardock Scramble by Tow Ubukata. Meanwhile, producer Don Murphy (live-action Transformers film trilogy) is planning to develop a live-action film adaptation of Tokisuna no Ou by Issui Ogawa.
