Saruchinesu, a new title by manga creator Minoru Furuya (Himizu, Ping Pong Club), began serialization in Kodansha's Young Magazine weekly manga magazine on Monday. The title features the protagonist, Saruchinesu, a rural NEET (Not in Employment, Education, or Training) and shut-in who boasts of his ability to stay cool in any situation and is known for his affinity toward food scraps.
Furuya's Himizu was adapted into an award-winning live-action film directed by Sion Sono in 2011. Furuya's Ping Pong Club received an anime adaptation in 1995, which was later released in North America by Central Park Media.
