2 Arrested in Japan for Selling Pirated One Piece DVDs
posted on by Egan Loo
Police in Chiba Prefecture arrested 47-year-old unemployed man Takuyuki Machida and his 48-year-old wife Mal-suk on suspicion of selling pirated DVDs of The One Piece anime. The authorities say that both suspects from Gunma Prefecture's town of Oizumi admitted to the allegations.
Between last July and this past March, the two allegedly sold 38 copied DVDs to three men on the Internet for about 10,000 yen (about US$120). They reportedly acquired the DVD copies from a Korean website and then resold them. The authorities further allege that Machida has earned about 16 million yen (US$200,000) from sales since 2006.
