The official website for Hotaru no Hikari the Movie was updated on Friday with the film's first full-length trailer.
The film is the sequel to the two live-action Hotaru no Hikaru television series, which in turn were based on Satoru Hiura's women's romance manga Hotaru no Hikari - It's Only Little Light in My Life. The manga follows a 27-year-old office worker Hotaru (Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror, Crying Out Love in the Center of the World's Haruka Ayase) who is uninterested in love. Hotaru's situation gets complicated as she suddenly finds herself living with her boss, Seiichi Takano (20th Century Boys' Chōno, GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka's Ryuji Saejima).
In the film's story, Hotaru and Takano head off to Italy (highlight the following white text to read) for their honeymoon. Yasuko Matsuyuki and Yuya Tegoshi star as a woman and her brother that Hotaru and Takano meet in Italy.
TV series director Hiroshi Yoshino is returning to direct the film. Haruka Ayase (Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror, Crying Out Love in the Center of the World) plays the lead character Hotaru. Ryuji Saejima (20th Century Boys, GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka) co-stars as the love interest Seiichi Takano.
The movie will open in Japan on June 9.
