posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The 19th issue of Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine announced on Thursday that Akita Shoten will launch a new magazine titled Bessatsu Shōnen Champion on June 12. The new magazine will be released on the 12th of every month, and it will cost 550 yen (US$6.65).
The magazine will feature a spinoff of Keisuke Itagaki's Baki The Grappler manga titled Kizudura. Yukinao Yamauchi (Baki Gaiden - Scarface) will draw the manga, which will revolve around the character Kaoru Hanayama. Itagaki's original Baki The Grappler martial arts manga ran in Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine from 1991 to 1999. Baki The Grappler has received several manga sequels, two television anime adaptations, and an OAV (original animation video).
The magazine will also feature a manga adaptation of the Crows Zero 2 live-action film titled Crows Zero 2: Suzuran × Hōen. Tetsuhiro Hirakawa (Clover) will draw the manga. Dai Suzuki (Drop) previously launched a Crows' spinoff manga titled Kuzu!! in Akita Shoten's Young Champion magazine in February.
Hiroshi Takahashi's original Crows manga ran for 26 volumes, and Digital Manga Publishing partially published its sequel manga Worst in English. Crows also inspired a two-episode anime OVA adaptation, the 1994 Koukou Butouden Crows. The video label MVM slated Takashi Miike's two live-action prequel films, Crows Zero and Crow Zero 2 for U.K. DVD releases in April and July.
