New Little Charo Anime Show Puts Title Pup in Northeast Japan
posted on by Ko Ransom
The Japanese public broadcaster NHK will begin airing Little Charo: Tohoku-hen, a 12-episode anime series featuring the puppy character Charo, on April 7. In it, Charo will venture around Tōno, Iwate, a city in Japan's Tohoku (Northeast) region, attempting to find the "Eight-Starred Note" in order to prevent the reappearance of the Tenaga-Ashinaga monster of local legend.
Little Charo began as a English instructional program on the channel, and ran from April 2008 to March 2009. It received a sequel, Little Charo 2, in April 2010. Unlike the previous two, the third series will be in Japanese. The Tohoku-born singer Ayako Fuji will sing the program's theme song, "Wasurenai" (We Won't Forget).
Two specials will be aired in March about the series and the Tohoku region in the two weeks leading up to the start of the program. The official website for the program is hosted as a part of NHK's "Ashita e" Great Eastern Japan Earthquake aid feature.
