Hyakko School Comedy Manga Abruptly Put on Hiatus

Haruaki Katoh's online manga inspired 2008 TV anime from Nippon Animation

Japanese publisher Flex Comix announced a sudden halt in its serialization of Haruaki Katoh's manga Hyakko. Citing unspecified "various circumstances," Flex Comix said that it is temporarily putting the series on hold. The official Hyakko blog will report if the situation changes.

The story follows the antics of four high school freshman girls, after they enroll into a huge private academy that teaches every grade from elementary school to high school.

The manga launched in Flex Comix' online Flex Comix Blood magazine in 2007, and Flex Comix published the sixth compiled book volume last month. Nippon Animation adapted the manga into a television anime series in 2008 with streams outside Japan by Crunchyroll. Retailers listed pre-orders for the North American release of the manga's first volume from DC Comics' CMX Manga imprint in 2010, but DC shut down the imprint that same year.
