Boku wa Beatles Manga Ends, Kawaguchi Draws Quake 1-Shot
posted on by Egan Loo
Manga creator Kaiji Kawaguchi (Zipang, Eagle, The Silent Service) ended his Boku wa Beatles manga in this year's 12th issue of Kodansha's Morning magazine on Febuary 16. However, he is running a one-shot manga called "Ore Shika Inai ~Kuroi Nami o Nori Koete~" (I'm Alone: Overcoming the Black Wave) in this year's 6th issue of Shogakukan's Big Comic magazine on March 10. The one-shot manga follows the experiences of a member of Japan's Ground Self-Defence Forces during the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster last March.
Tetsuo Fujii, the grand prize winner of the 25th Manga Open contest for new artists, created the orginal story of Boku wa Beatles, and Kawaguchi turned it into a full manga series in 2010. The manga followed the members of a Beatles cover band who time-travel from 2010 to 1961 and become the members of the actual Beatles. The 9th and 10th volumes of the manga will ship in Japan on April 23.
Kawaguchi drew Zipang, another time-travelling manga in Kodansha's Morning magazine, until 2009. Viz published his Eagle manga in North America, Central Park Media released The Silent Service anime special, and Geneon Entertainment (USA) released the Zipang television anime.
