Kadokawa Signs Ebook Agreement With Amazon Japan
posted on by Ko Ransom
The website for the publishing industry trade journal Shinbunka reported on Thursday that Kadokawa Group has signed a contract with Amazon Japan for Kindle, PC, and smartphone distribution of ebook versions of titles published by all of the companies that are part of their group, including Kadokawa Shoten, ASCII Media Works, Enterbrain, Kadokawa Gakugei Shuppan, Fujimi Shobo, and Media Factory. As part of the contract, Amazon will be given the right to determine the price of titles distributed under the agreement. The negotiations for this contract reportedly took approximately one year, and it marks the first time a major Japanese publisher has entered into such an agreement.
Kadokawa has been distributing ebooks on its Book Walker app for iPhone and other iOS devices in Japan since last year.
Kadokawa purchased manga and light novel publisher Media Factory last October for 8 billion yen.
