Japanese Rental Chain: 55.9% of Customers Have BD Players

Culture Convenience Club's Tsutaya, a major Japanese rental chain, reported that for the first time in its latest annual survey, more than half of its customers have Blu-ray Disc players. The rate of ownership reached 55.9% in the November 2011 survey. It was only 19% in 2009, and then went up to 33.7% in 2010.

The Digital Entertainment Group Japan (DEG Japan) and the Blu-ray Disc Association declared last week that they aim to have Blu-ray Discs overtake DVDs in numbers shipped in Japan by 2013.
