The website of director Kenji Kamiyama (Eden of the East, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) has posted the first 75-second theatrical teaser trailer for the forthcoming feature film, 009 RE:CYBORG, on YouTube.
The film, which is Kamiyama's first in full-3D animation, adapts Shōtarō Ishinomori's classic science fiction manga Cyborg 009. The film will open in more than five Asian regions simultaneously, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and South Korea. Production I.G and SANZIGEN Animation Studio will co-produce the film. The film is slated to open in Japanese theaters this fall.
Kamiyama produced a 3D Pepsi Nex ad with Cyborg 009 earlier this year. Kamiyama is both directing and scripting the story of the new film, which will be set in the year 2013.
In the original manga, the secret Black Ghost organization transforms nine unsuspecting humans into cyborgs. However, the nine cyborgs turn on their masters and protect the rest of humanity from Black Ghost's plans for world war.
