posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
NIS America confirmed with ANN on Friday that it has licensed the Occult Academy television anime series. The North American anime retailer Right Stuf lists that the 13-episode series will receive a subtitled Blu-ray release on May 8.
Crunchyroll previously streamed the series as it aired in Japan.
Occult Academy revolves around mystery and supernatural cases at Occult Academy, a fortress-like academy city. A-1 Pictures and Hiroyuki Kitakubo (Blood: The Last Vampire, Angel Cop, Robot Carnival) co-created Occult Academy as TV Tokyo and Aniplex's third Anime no Chikara project. Tomohiko Ito (Death Note and Majin Tantei Nōgami Neuro assistant director) directed the series, and Seishi Minakami (Shigurui: Death Frenzy, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun) supervised the scripts.
Update: NIS America's press release confirms that the complete series will be released on May 8 on two Blu-ray Discs. The release will come with a 36-page artbook, draft designs, and an occult encyclopedia. The release will also include "four bonus short episodes that give a glimpse into Maya's first childhood encounter with a real, live cryptid."
