posted on by Egan Loo
The character brand company Sanrio began streaming a 53-second short version of the music video for the song "Stay the same." The song is part of the "Uta no Kotoba" (Words of Songs) collaborative project between Sanrio's Wish me mell characters and Japanese pop singer Mai Kuraki.
In the collaborative project, Kuraki becomes a female puppy named Maimai who sings this song of encouragement.
The full version of the music video is on the DVD that was bundled with the limited first edition of Kuraki's 10th album, Over the Rainbow, on January 11. Besides this song, Kuraki also wrote and sang theme songs for several Detective Conan anime projects and Patapata Hikōsen no Bōken.
Last year, Sanrio also streamed two earlier anime shorts with Wish me mell, "Big Miracle Circus" and "Maimai's Humming Concert":
The Wish me mell characters debuted in December of 2010, and they are aimed towards women between the ages of 15-20. Fanworks (The Bears' School , Hanoka) produced the animation in the earlier shorts. Sanrio is known for its popular mascot characters such as Hello Kitty, Cinnaroll, Badtzmaru, and Chococat.
