posted on by Jennifer Sherman
The Malaysian animation studio Funcel posted a trailer and a montage video for their collaborative historical animation series Satria - The Warriors of the 7 Elements. Funcel is partnering with the Japanese anime studio Gonzo and Malaysia's National Film Development Corporation to produce the adventure series for a fall 2012 release. The videos detail the story's combination of Southeast Asian history with fiction and provide basic character profiles.
The 26-episode animated series is aimed at children 9 to 14 years old, and each episode will run 24 minutes. Hiroyuki Kitakubo (Blood: The Last Vampire) is involved, although he states that he is only an advisor. Kitakubo stated in September that 22 episodes for the Malaysian government were subcontracted to China for 2 million yen (about US$24,000) each.
Satria - The Warriors of the 7 Elements' story centers on boy Hang Tuah and follows the Satria, warriors of the seven elements, as they strive to save their princess Hang Li Po from the seven-member Suliman group who kidnapped her. The Satria are determined to avenge the death of their master, killed by the Suliman, and protect the sovereignty of Melaka.
