Yappo Island Picture Books Get Stop-Motion TV Anime

The Yappo Island picture book series will receive a stop-motion television anime series adaptation starting in January. The 25-episode Fushigi no Yappo Shima ~ Pukipuki to Poi series will air Mondays through Fridays on the NHK Educational TV channel from January 9 through February 10. Each episode will be five minutes long.
The show's story revolves around a young girl named Pukipuki and a monkey with a rainbow-colored face named Poi. Pukipuki and Poi are good friends who live on Yappo Island, whose strange and carefree inhabitants pass the time peacefully.
The show will feature the following cast:
- Yumi Matsutoya as the Narrator
- Natsuko Kinashi as Pukipuki
- Etsuko Kozakura as Poi
Yammie, the original author of the picture books, will write the scripts and act as director for the anime. Masataka Masutoya, Yumi Matsutoya's husband, will serve as musical director for the series. Ryūshirō Yoshiba will serve as the animation director, and Mica Project will handle the music. Tackey & Tsubasa will perform the show's theme song "Pa Pi Pu Pe Yappo Alright!"
