posted on by Andrew Osmond
The Leeds Film Festival has announced a late anime addition to its line-up, a free screening of the children's fantasy In the Forest of the Fireflies Light (Hotarubi no Mori e) on Friday November 18. This is the adaptation of a manga by Yuki Midorikawa, best known for creating the Natsume Yūjin-Chō (Natsume's Book of Friends) manga and anime. According to the festival site, the film runs 45 minutes, and the free screening will be on Friday November 18 at 4.45 p.m. in Leeds Town Hall. The screening can be booked by calling 0113 224 3801.
The story centers around Hotaru, a little girl who gets lost in an enchanted forest where apparitions reside. A young boy, Gin, appears before Hotaru, but she cannot touch him for fear of making him disappear. It was animated by the studio Brains Base, directed by Takahiro Ōmori, with music by Makoto Yoshimori. The film stars Ayane Sakura (Dream Eater Merry) as Hotaru and Kōki Uchiyama (Infinite Stratos, C, Soul Eater) as Gin. It had its EU premiere in October in the Glasgow Scotland Loves Anime festival, where it won the Jury Award. A trailer for the film is given below.
The Leeds Film Festival is currently showing numerous other anime and anime-related screenings; full details here.
