New series set in Japan, as viewed by a young professor in the 1960s

This year's November issue of Shueisha's office YOU magazine revealed on Friday that Mari Yamazaki (Thermae Romae) will start a new manga titled Giacomo Foscari (pictured at right) in the magazine's December issue, which goes on sale on October 22.

The new series will be set in Japan, and will tell a story as viewed by a young professor in the 1960s.

Yamazaki's Thermae Romae comedy manga is about Lucius — an architect of public bath houses (thermae) in ancient Rome — who time-travels to various modern-day baths in Japan. Through manga and essay passages, Yamazaki explores the two cultures in the world "that have loved baths the most: the Japanese and the Romans!"

The work won the Manga Taisho (Cartoon Grand Prize) award last year, followed by the Short Work Prize in the 14th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prizes. A live-action film version with Hiroshi Abe and Aya Ueto will open in Japan in 2012. Although Yamazaki was born in Tokyo, she now lives in Chicago.

The November issue of office YOU is also publishing a one-shot manga from Tenohira Size. author Kirin Tendō titled "Soshite, Hare ni Naru," which tells a story about a woman whose married life is going badly.
