Jiro Taniguchi Plans New Historical Manga
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Manga creator Jiro Taniguchi stated in an interview with Comic Natalie that he is in the planning process for a new manga project. Taniguchi says this unnamed new work will take place in Meiji era (September 8, 1868 - July 30, 1912) Tokyo. If the work is approved by Taniguchi's editors, the author cautions it probably will not be published for two or three years because of his work pace. Taniguchi did not reveal character or plot details in the interview.
The interview commemorated Taniguchi's recently received Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) honor in France. The French government awarded the knighthood title to the author for his contributions to the arts through his various manga works.
Taniguchi's many manga works include A Distant Neighborhood, The Ice Wanderer, Hareyuku Sora, and Quest for the Missing Girl. Taniguchi has also illustrated manga stories written by separate authors.
