Madoka Magica 5 is 5th BD Volume to Sell 50,000+

The fifth limited-edition volume of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica television anime sold 50,596 copies in its first week of sales, ranking at #1 on Oricon's weekly chart. This makes the fifth consecutive Madoka Magica Blu-ray volume that has sold more than 50,000 copies and ranked #1 on Oricon's chart in its first week.
The second volume of the series holds the record for Blu-ray sales for a television anime release in its first week, selling 53,715 units.
The first Madoka Magica volume sold 53,000 (rounded to the nearest thousand) copies in its first week despite a recall on its second official day of sales. The third volume sold 51,840 copies in its first week, and the fourth volume sold 51,254 copies in its first week.
Before Madoka Magica, the previous record-holder was the sixth and final Blu-ray volume of Bakemonogatari, which sold 51,000 units. Not incidentally, Akiyuki Shinbo directed both projects.
Madoka Magica's sixth and final Blu-ray volume will ship on September 21.
