Atsui zo! Nekogaya!! Comedy Manga Gets 2nd Live-Action Show

posted on by Egan Loo
Futari H's Aki Katsu inspires Motto Atsui zo! Nekogaya!! with Mika Ayano

Mika Ayano, a winner in this year's Miss Magazine idol contest and the daughter of singer Toshihiko Tahara, will star in the second live-action television series based on Aki Katsu's romantic comedy manga Atsui zo! Nekogaya!! (It's Hot! Nekogaya!!) starting on October 13. This will be the first starring role in a live-action television series for Ayano. Motto Atsui zo! Nekogaya!! (It's Even Hotter! Nekogaya!!) will also be the third live-action series to star the finalists of the Miss Magazine contest, after 2009's Boku no Himitsu Heiki (My Secret Weapon) and the first Atsui zo! Nekogaya!! show last year.

The story is set in Nekogaya, a town in Saitama Prefecture northwest of Tokyo. Nekogaya is Japan's hottest town with a record high temperature of 48.4°C (119°F). As a result, the town passed laws mandating citizens to wear swimsuits everyday "for ecological reasons." Katsu serialized the manga in Kodansha's Young Magazine from 2009 to April of this year, and the seventh and final compiled book volume shipped in July.

Katsu's other manga titles include Futari H (Manga Sutra), Psychic Academy, and the shōnen manga version of The Vision of Escaflowne; Tokyopop published these three titles in North America.
