Deadline: Disney to Adapt Tuxedo Gin Manga into Film
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The movie news website Deadline reported on Thursday that Walt Disney Pictures has hired Night At The Museum's co-writer Robert Ben Garant to pen an adaptation of Tokihiko Matsuura's Tuxedo Gin manga under the name Tux. Paul Young and Peter Principato, Viz Media's Jason Hoffs, and Shogakukan's Ichiro Takase will produce the film. Deadline did not specify if the film will be animated or live-action.
Tuxedo Gin revolves around a boxer, Ginji Kusanagi, who dies in an accident and is told he can return to his body after he lives out a lifespan in an animal. Ginji chooses to be reincarnated as a penguin, his girlfriend's favorite animal.
Viz Media published the 15-volume manga series in North America.
Garant has written the screenplay for the films Herbie Fully Loaded and The Pacifier, and he also co-created and starred in the television series Reno 911! and the film spinoff Reno 911!: Miami. Garant will also executive-produce the film along with Isamu Kamei.
