Arrietty is 2011's #1 Anime DVD in Japan After 5 Days

According to the Oricon Weekly DVD sales ranking chart published on June 22, the Karigurashi no Arrietty DVD became the top-selling anime DVD in Japan for 2011. Released on June 17, the film sold 127,365 DVD units in less than a week, making it the second-best-selling release for all DVD sales in Japan. Mobile Suit Gundam UC Volume 3 held the previous anime record for 2011 with about 62,028 DVDs sold since its April release.
Blu-ray Disc sales have also reached 36,667 units for Arrietty, placing the film at the top of the anime category for both DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales in Oricon's current weekly ranking lists.
Watched over 7.5 million times as of October 2010, the film also holds the all-time viewing record for a Japanese film directed by a first-time director.
