Comic Book Legal Defense Fund Opposes Utah Net Bill
posted on by Andrew Osmond
The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF) has joined an American federal lawsuit opposing a Utah law that would regulate Internet dissemination of material “harmful to minors.” The court ordered a temporary injunction barring the law's enforcement until the case is decided.
The plaintiffs opposing Utah's "Harmful to Minors Act" — including the CBLDF, the American Civil Liberties Union, booksellers, and media companies — argue that it should be the responsibility of parents to protect minors from “harmful” material.
The lawsuit is named Florence v. Shurtleff. Utah passed the "Harmful to Minors Act" in 2005.
