Saturn Apartments Manga to End in Japan in May
posted on by Egan Loo
The June issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Ikki magazine is announcing on Monday that Hisae Iwaoka is ending her Saturn Apartments (Dosei Mansion) manga series in the next issue in May.
In the future, all of Earth is declared a giant nature reserve where no human may step foot. So, humanity migrated into a massive aerial ring system circling 35,000 meters above the ground. Human society is now literally stratified, with the upper echelons of society living on the highest level of the system while the lowest classes live down below. A boy named Mitsu has only known life on the lowest level. Mitsu's father disappears just as Mitsu graduates from middle school, and thus Mitsu inherits his father's job: washing the windows of the giant ring system.
Iwaoka has been drawing the manga in Ikki since 2005, and the sixth compiled book volume shipped in Japan last August. Viz Media launched the manga online in North Amercia in 2009, and it will print the third volume next month. Ikki announced plans for a live-action film adaptation in 2008.
