Touch's Adachi to Launch New Over Fence Baseball Manga
posted on by Egan Loo
The 21st issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine is announcing on Wednesday that Mitsuru Adachi, the manga creator best known for coming-of-age sports manga such as Touch and Cross Game, is launching a new baseball series called Asaoka Kōkō Yakyū-Bu Nisshi - Over Fence (Asaoka High School Baseball Team Journal - Over Fence) in the next issue. The story will center around minori, the female manager of a high school baseball team.
Adachi also drew Cross Game from 2005 to 2010 in Weekly Shonen Sunday, and he has been serializing Idol Ace (Weekly Shonen Sunday) and Q and A (Monthly Shonen Sunday/Gessan) on a less frequent basis. Viz Media began releasing the Cross Game manga in North America last October, and the fourth volume will ship this July. Viz previously published Adachi's Short Program compilation of short stories. The Cross Game manga inspired a television anime series that ran from 2009 to 2010, and Viz streamed the anime.
Another author, Natsumi Iwasaki, wrote Moshi Kōkō Yakyū no Joshi Manager ga Drucker no "Management" o Yondara (Moshidora), a novel about a female baseball manager, that has sold over 2 million copies since 2009. The novel inspired both a television anime series and a live-action film.
