Magic Tree House Books to Get Animated Film in 2012
posted on by Egan Loo
The Japanese publisher Media Factory announced last November that an animated film adaptation of the Magic Tree House children's book series was green-lit. A full-page-spread advertisement in the March 6 edition of the Asahi Shimbun paper then revealed that the film will open in Japan in 2012. American author Mary Pope Osborne has been writing the original books about a brother and a sister who go on adventures throughout time with a mysterious tree house.
The announcement does not specify where the film is being produced. However, the online announcement and the March 6 newspaper ad both feature artwork inspired by the illustrations in the books' Japanese edition, as opposed to the illustrations in the original American edition. Ayana Amako illustrates the Japanese edition, while Salvatore Murdocca illustrates the American edition.
92 million copies of the books have been published in 33 countries, and 3.3 million have been sold in Japan alone.
