Tekkonkinkreet's Taiyo Matsumoto to Start Sunny Manga
posted on by Egan Loo
Tekkonkinkreet manga creator Taiyo Matsumoto will launch a new manga series called Sunny in the February issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Ikki magazine on December 25. On Thursday, the January issue published a preview image, which features three boys. One of the boys is wearing a cap of the Yokohama Taiyō Whales — the former name of the Yokohama BayStars baseball team from 1978 to 1992. Another boy is wearing what appears to be a belt from a transforming hero such as those in Kamen Rider and other live-action tokusatsu (special-effects) series.
Ikki is marking its 10th anniversary in December; Matsumoto's No. 5 manga launched in the first issue of Ikki, so Sunny represents his return to the magazine.
Viz Media published Matsumoto's Tekkonkinkreet (Black & White), Blue Spring, GoGo Monster, and No. 5 manga in North America. Viz also released Fumihiko Sori's live-action film adaptation of Matsumoto's Ping Pong manga, while Sony Pictures Home Entertainment released the Tekkonkinkreet anime film by director Michael Arias.
