Fullmetal Alchemist Manga: Over 50 Million Served
posted on by Egan Loo
Square Enix is publishing over 50 million copies of Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist manga in Japan. It is the first Square Enix title to achieve that feat; the series is attaining that high mark with the 27th and final compiled book volume, which is shipping on November 22.
Arakawa began drawing the "dark fantasy" manga in Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine in 2001, and Viz Media will publish the 24th manga volume in North America next January. The manga ended in Monthly Shonen Gangan in June, although Arakawa released a side-story manga short last month. Funimation has been releasing both of the Fullmetal Alchemist television anime series and the 2005 anime film Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie - Conqueror of Shamballa. A new Fullmetal Alchemist movie has since been green-lit in Japan.
