Hatsune Miku Virtual Idol Gets Her 1st Weekly Manga
posted on by Egan Loo
Hatsune Miku, the first popular Japanese idol singer whose "voice" is generated on-the-fly by computer software, will launch her first weekly manga in this year's 40th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine on September 2. Kentarō Hayashi will begin the four-panel manga series with a full-color installment.
Crypton Future Media created Hatsune Miku as its first "Character Vocal Series 01" release based on Yamaha's Vocaloid2 vocal synthesis engine. The character has inspired several manga in the past, but the previous ones have appeared in monthly magazines like Monthly Comic Rush or in anthology books. She already appeared "live" in concert via a 2D screen in 2009, and she made holographic "appearances" in later concerts. She also starred in a computer-animated music video which shipped on DVD in July.
