posted on by Egan Loo
25-year-old award-winning actor Ken'ichi Matsuyama (Death Note, Detroit Metal City, Gantz) will star in the previously announced live-action film adaptation of Yumi Unita's Bunny Drop (Usagi Drop) manga. Filming began on July 21 and is scheduled to end in the middle of this month. Sabu is directing the film, and the film will open in Japan next summer. Karina and Chizuru Ikewaki also star.
In the story of the manga, 30-year-old bachelor Daikichi (Matsuyama) comes home from his grandfather's funeral to discover a little girl named Rin (Mana Ashida) in his garden. Rin is the 6-year-old illegitimate daughter of Daikichi's grandfather, and Daikichi decides to take her in when no one in the family accepts the responsibility. The manga has been running in Shodensha's Feel Young women's magazine since 2005, and Yen Press will publish the second manga volume in North America next month.
