Kyonyū Dragon Manga Gets Live-Action Movie Green-Lit
posted on by Egan Loo
A live-action movie adaptation of Rei Mikamoto's Kyonyū Dragon (The Big Tits Dragon) zombie action manga has been green-lit. Mikamoto is best known for creating the Chimamire Sukeban Chainsaw and Zombie-ya Reiko (Reiko the Zombie Shop) manga; Dark Horse Comics published the first six volumes of the latter title in North America. The Kyonyū Dragon: Onsen Zombies vs. Stripper 5 film will open on May 15 at Tokyo's Cinemart Roppongi theater, followed by a 2-disc DVD release from Albatross on August 4.
The main character of the movie is Rena (Sora Aoi), a stripper who has returned to Japan from Mexico. The story follows a battle between five strippers and a zombie army at a countryside strip club.
Takao Nakano wrote and directed the Kyonyū Dragon film. The original manga ran in Kodansha's defunct Young Magazine Uppers magazine in 2004, and both Kodansha and Bunkasha have published a one-volume book compilation in various formats. Mikamoto's Zombie-ya Reiko was adapted into a three-part live-action video series in 2004.
