Kitarō Airport's Nickname Made Official
posted on by Egan Loo
Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: Yonago Airport has decided last Wednesday to officially adopt the nickname Yonago Kitaro Airport — as coined from Shigeru Mizuki's GeGeGe no Kitarō supernatural manga. Mizuki is a native of Sakaiminato City, the city in Tottori Prefecture where the airport is located. A promotional group formed by the prefecture and private organizations has already been using the nickname for, among other things, its tourism campaign for the local sightseeing destinations since last year. Starting at the end of this month, the airport will officially use the nickname in its materials.
The title character of the manga is a half-human, half-yokai (supernatural creature) boy who lives with his eyeball father (Medama Oyaji) and his bickering friends Nezumi Otoko and Neko Musume in Gegege Forest. Sakaiminato already has a museum dedicated to Mizuki and a road named "Shigeru Mizuki Road" with over 100 bronze statues of Mizuki's manga characters.
