posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
A Strike Witches manga series, tentatively titled New Strike Witches, will launch in the June issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Comp Ace magazine on April 26. Dōjinshi artist Urotan will be drawing the series. There have been Strike Witches manga in Comp Ace since 2005, and a new manga was previously announced in March of 2009.
The current June issue celebrated the magazine's fifth anniversary on Friday with two collaborative crossover manga between the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha and Fate franchises from Nanoha creator Masaki Tsuzuki. Takuya Fujima (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid, Negima!? neo, Weiß Survive) drew a crossover between Nanoha and Fate/stay night, while Hiroshi Hiroyama (Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya Zwei!) drew a crossover between Nanoha and Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya.
Takashi Takeuchi, the original character designer of the Fate and Tsukihime software/anime franchises, illustrated the magazine issue's front cover with characters from both Fate and Nanoha. Yasuhiro Okuda, the character designer of the Nanoha franchise, drew one side of a reversible Fate/Nanoha crossover poster. (The other side reprints Takeuchi's cover illustration.) Fujima drew two separate Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid bathing poster illustrations. The magazine also included a dual interview between both Takeuchi and Tsuzuki.
Three new manga series launched in the June issue: Juri Misaki and Key's Little Busters! EX (Ecstasy) Wonderbit Wandering manga, Hideaki Koyasu and Sorahiko Mizushima's manga adaptation of Bushiroad and Chronogear Creative's Tantei Opera Milky Holmes franchise, and Monaco Sena's Dantalian no Shoka: Dalian Days manga spinoff of Gakuto Mikumo and G Yusuke's Dantalian no Shoka light novels.
The North American anime distributor Funimation released the first Strike Witches television anime season, the Fate/stay night anime series, and the first Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha anime. Crunchyroll and BOST TV had streamed the first Strike Witches anime season when it premiered in Japan in 2008. Both the Nanoha and Fate franchises had spawned anime movies that premiered in January. Tantei Opera Milky Holmes is also spawning an anime adaptation.
