Borders Store Chain Lays Off More Employees
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The Borders Group book and media store chain laid off more of its workforce last week. Borders did not reveal how many employees were let go, but did release a statement saying, "Borders is always looking for opportunities to improve performance and profitability. Any recent changes are a continuation of our efforts." Employee blogs, which have dubbed last week's layoffs "Black Thursday," have indicated that some training supervisor positions were eliminated.
Borders had previously announced in January that it had cut 124 members or 10 percent of its corporate staff. Those layoffs came two days after the announcement that Chief Executive Officer Ron Marshall had resigned from the company.
Borders had also previously laid off 742 employees or 3 percent of its workforce in March 2009.
