posted on by Egan Loo
The North American anime distributor Media Blasters has confirmed that it has licensed the Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei anime series in its retail solicitation list for May 2010. The first English-subtitled DVD volume will ship on May 25. The high school comedy centers around a pathologically depressed teacher who somehow finds the will to deal with a class of oddball students.
Media Blasters' Kitty Media adult label will also release the uncut version of the first Urotsukidōji: Legend of the Overfiend video series, as well as its movie compilation, on May 18. Both were previously released in North America by Central Park Media's Anime 18 label.
Del Rey published the fifth volume of Kôji Kumeta's original Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei manga in North America last month. Since the first television anime series aired in 2007, the Zoku Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei sequel aired in 2008. The three-part Goku Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei original anime DVD series ran from 2008 to 2009, and the third television series, Zan Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei, aired in 2009. Two more original anime DVD volumes have since shipped in Japan.
