X Japan Band Invited to Lollapalooza Fest in August
posted on by Egan Loo
X Japan leader YOSHIKI revealed at the Grammy Awards' red carpet on Sunday that his band agreed to appear at the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago from August 6 to August 8. The band received an offer to play at the festival's main stage in Grant Park, although the official detailed announcement will be made public later this month. X Japan would be the first Japanese musical act to perform at the festival's main stage.
YOSHIKI attended the 52nd Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles as a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, after having walked the red carpet in 2008. X Japan held a Saturday evening music video shoot at the heart of Hollywood last month.
X Japan's most notable anime contributions were the songs in the X² music video collection and later X movie. The animation studio Madhouse adapted both productions from CLAMP's X manga. The surviving band members — Toshimitsu "Toshi" Deyama, Yoshiki Hayashi, Tomoaki "Pata" Ishizuka, and Hiroshi "Heath" Morie — reunited in 2007, ten years after they first disbanded and nine years after the death of guitarist Hideto "Hide" Matsumoto.

Update: The Boredoms, a Japanese noise rock band, also performed on the main stage of Lollapalooza in 1994. Thanks, caporushes.
