Polysics Vocalist Kayo to Leave Band in 2010

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

The Japanese rock band POLYSICS announced on Wednesday that one of its members, Kayo (synthesizer, vocoder, vocals), will be leaving the band in 2010. She has been a member of the band since 1998. In the announcement, Kayo said she had been wondering what kind of person she would be if not a musician, which is what motivated her to leave the band.

Kayo said that she will still perform in the recently announced 14-city U.S. tour in January and February 2010. Her last performance with POLYSICS will be on March 14, when the band will play at the famous Nippon Budōkan stadium to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the band's debut.

The band also announced that it will be taking a hiatus after the March Budōkan performance. The band said the break will be for the preparation of the "second generation" of the band. The band has said that the hiatus may be a short one.

POLYSICS performed the fifth opening theme song for the Sgt. Frog anime series and the ending theme song for the Tales of Agriculture (Moyashimon) anime series. The band released its latest album "Absolute POLYSICS" in Japan in September of this year. According to the band's website, MySpace Records will release the album "in the near future." The band will release a best album called "POLYSICS BESTOISU!!!!" in Japan on January 13.

The band previously toured the U.S. and Canada in 2007.
