Conference in Ottawa to Focus on Otaku Culture

On January 8, 2010, Ottawa University will host a conference titled "Oniichan, what does 'moe' mean?" The conference will present "a discussion on the otaku movement, manga and anime in contemporary Japan." The conference will be led by Patrick Galbraith, the author of the Kodansha-published book, The Otaku Encyclopedia: An Insider's Guide to the Subculture of Cool Japan and Thomas LaMarre, the author of the recently published book, The Anime Machine: A Media Theory of Animation. Both authors will discuss their books, and they will also discuss "the potential, and limits, of moe."

The conference will be presented in English with a discussion in both English and French.
