Baby & Me's Ragawa to Launch Mashiro no Oto Manga
posted on by Egan Loo
The December issue of Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine has announced on Friday that Baby & Me (Akachan to Boku) creator Marimo Ragawa is launching a new manga called Mashiro no Oto in the next issue on December 5. The coming-of-age drama follows a girl as she comes across a boy on the street with an unusual instrument case. This chance encounter between an idol singer hopeful and a player of the traditional Japanese three-stringed shamisen leads both on a journey to discovering their figurative and literal voices.
The next Monthly Shonen Magazine will feature an extended 111-page one-shot story for Mashiro no Oto, but the magazine has already decided to run it as a full series starting in the May 2010 issue next April. This will be the first manga series that Ragawa has created for a shōnen magazine. Ragawa is best known for Baby & Me, New York, New York, Shanimuni GO, and other shōjo classics.
Viz Media will publish the 17th volume of the Baby & Me manga in North America next month, and Viz's Shojo Beat magazine serialized the manga from its debut issue in June of 2005 until August of 2007. The manga was adapted into a Japanese television anime series from 1996 to 1997 and into a live-action Korean film last year.
