Toriko Manga Accused of Including Dragon Quest Monster
posted on by Egan Loo
The newest installment of Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro's Toriko manga includes a four-legged "Grand Shark" monster that shares the same name and similar appearance as a monster in Square Enix's Dragon Quest game series. In Toriko's story, "bishokuya" (gourmet food providers) travel the world to hunt down the animals and plants needed for the finest cuisine dishes. Readers can submit ideas for enemy monsters that appear in the manga. The 69th installment of Toriko, "'Ice Hell' e no Kōro!!" (The Route to "Ice Hell"!!), ran in this year's 47th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, which shipped this past Monday.
The 69th Toriko installment features the Grand Shark, a fish monster species of "Capture Level 6" that a reader named "Masahiro Nakanishi" from Mie Prefecture submitted. Posters in a 2channel forum thread devoted to Toriko and several Japanese bloggers noted that a four-legged "Grand Shark" monster also appeared in Enix's Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart game for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance console.
