Kotatsu Neko Anime to Start in October (Update 2)
posted on by Egan Loo
The voice actress Sakura Nogawa has revealed that she is playing the role of "Shito-chan" in a new anime called Kotatsu Neko (Table Cat), which will debut in October. Nogawa made the announcement in her Okinawa live concert, in her fan club's email newsletter, and in a Tuesday blog post. Nogawa is also singing the ending theme, and is recording it next week.
Kotatsu Neko is based on a "live-action science-fiction/fantasy romance" film of the same name which was released in Japan in 2006. The story is set in a certain neighborhood of Tokyo where two cats live under a kotatsu (Japanese table with a built-in heater). Shito is a girlish white cat, while Zero is a cool black cat. The cat's owner, Rei "Junior" Fujisaki, is a third-year middle-school hikikomori (shut-in introvert) obsessed with games. He likes a girl in his class, but naturally, he cannot work up the nerve to tell her. Shito herself harbors a secret one-sided love also. Director Ōji Ogawa wrote the 2006 film with actress Serena (Zero), and its official site is still online.
Update: More story and production information added.
Update 2: Serena had revealed the anime adaptation in an August 4 blog entry. She described it as a television series of 5-minute episodes.
